The Gujarat Titans (GT) completely changed their game in the second half of their innings, and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) now have 181 runs to chase in their current IPL 2025 match at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday. After a sequence of wickets and a brilliant bowling performance by the home team, GT’s opening batting exhibition came to an end.

When LSG captain Rishabh Pant ordered Gujarat to bat first, they went all out. It was remarkable to watch Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan, the opening duo, put together a fantastic 120-run partnership in just 12.1 overs. The pair scored 54 runs in the first six overs, with the southpaw hitting boundaries off of both Akash Deep’s and Shardul Thakur’s opening deliveries.

With his fifty in thirty-one deliveries, Gill also appeared to be in good form. With his half-century off 32 balls, Sudharsan was not far behind. LSG’s bowlers, however, displayed their genius right when GT was hoping to reach a score of 200 or higher.

After Gill was knocked out for 60 by Avesh Khan with a cutter, Ravi Bishnoi’s wide googly gave Sudharsan the run in the following over. Then GT’s innings fell apart. One of this season’s breakout performers, Digvesh Singh Rathi, took out Jos Buttler after the latter failed to read his carrom ball.

With a final score of 2/34, Thakur did his share of the work. With just 45 runs from the last five overs, GT was able to muster just 60 runs in the remaining eight overs. The final score for the side was 180/6. Since Mitchell Marsh is out for personal reasons, LSG’s new-look top order, led by captain Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram, will need to bat strategically to chase this mark.
