After being asked to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) with 243/5. Shreyas Iyer led the team from the front with an incredible 97* (42).

Following the dismissal of fellow opener Prabhsimran Singh by Kagiso Rabada in the fourth over, Priyansh Arya played a brilliant knock at the top of the order. With a 51-run partnership off just 21 balls, Shreyas and Arya completely destroyed the Gujarat bowling.

Azmatullah Omarzai got off to a fantastic start after Arya was bowled for 47 off 23 balls. He hit his countryman Rashid Khan for a six off the first ball he faced. Before being removed by R Sai Kishore, he knocked 16 off 15 balls and struck two more boundaries. Marcus Stoinis (20) and Glenn Maxwell (0) were removed by the left-arm spinner. But Shreyas kept up his brilliant batting performance.

Shreyas was struck on the body by a short ball from Prasidh Krishna in the opening delivery of the seventeenth over. Out of the next five deliveries, he scored 24. Shashank Singh picked up where he left off the previous season when he walked out to bat at No. 7. Rashid Khan delivered the next over, and the right-handed batter blasted two sixes and a boundary.

Rabada let up 10 runs off the 19th over after the 17th and 18th overs produced a total of 44 runs. To reach his first IPL century, Shreyas needed to score three runs in the final over. The last over was bowled by Mohammed Siraj, who had given up 31 runs in his opening three overs without taking a wicket. Shashank blasted the Hyderabad bowler for five boundaries, putting him to the sword.

Shreyas was left stranded on 97 off 42 balls after failing to get the strike in the last over. But he knew his team had a massive score on the board, so he exited the pitch grinning broadly. With 87 runs from the final five overs, Shashank was still undefeated at 44 off 16 balls.
