The Mumbai Indians (MI) lost to Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 6, after a spectacular batting collapse that left them at 155/8.
After Shubman Gill won the toss and invited the Mumbai Indians to bat first, Mohammed Siraj got GT off to a fantastic start. Ryan Rickelton, who was playing well, was removed from the game by the Hyderabad pacer on the second ball. Arshad Khan was rewarded for his probing effort with the new ball, as Rohit Sharma was also dismissed in the fourth over.
Siraj and B Sai Sudharsan both dropped Will Jacks once. Meanwhile, Sai Kishore granted a reprieve to Suryakumar Yadav. Each of these missed catches occurred during the powerplay.
Mumbai had a solid finish thanks to a 71-run partnership between Jacks and Suryakumar from only 43 deliveries. But as the two set hitters were removed in short succession, the middle-order came crashing down. MI dropped from 97/2 in the eleventh over to 123/7 in the seventeenth. In the latter part of the innings, Corbin Bosch produced a brilliant hand to help MI reach the 150-run milestone once more.
Jacks led MI in scoring with a 53 off 35 balls. Suryakumar performed admirably as well, scoring 35 off of 24 balls. Gill, meantime, employed six bowlers, all of whom had success that evening. Each of the other players contributed one wicket, with R Sai Kishore taking two.
Rashid Khan, who had figures of 1/21 in four overs at the close of the first innings, evaluated his development following his recuperation from back surgery. According to the Afghanistan T20 captain, if the batters bat sensibly, the Titans should win the game. He also lauded fellow spinner Kishore for his effort.
“I tried sure to hit the appropriate locations, but I missed my lengths early in this event. After three to four months of surgery, you are not in your greatest rhythm throughout recovery; it takes time to return to your peak. My progress is slow, between 75 and 80 percent. I must make sure that I forget about the surgery. As a spinner you must strike the correct spots. Sai bowled his session excellently, taking two wickets. Rashid told JioHotstar following the innings, “We have to make sure that whoever bats takes responsibility for scoring those runs.”
