In Match No. 69 of the ongoing IPL 2025 at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) scored 184/7 in 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS), with a top-two finish on the line for the winner. Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first.
MI’s innings began poorly, as they lost Ryan Rickelton early. However, Rohit Sharma appeared in terrific form but failed to convert a decent start into a huge score, falling for 24 following a stunning catch by Nehal Wadhera at long-on. Mumbai’s scorecard read 52/1 at the end of six overs.
Tilak Varma’s lean patch continued when he smacked one straight to third man off Vyshak Vijaykumar for a four-ball out. Vyshak, in only his third game of the season, bowled a brilliant performance, finishing with figures of 2/44. Despite wickets tumbling from one end, Suryakumar Yadav once again served as the crisis manager. The right-hander, who has been MI’s most consistent performance this season, continued to impress everyone with his hitting. SKY scored his 14th successive 25-plus score in T20s, reaching fifty in 34 balls. His 44-run partnership with Hardik Pandya helped MI regain momentum.
Hardik, who has had little opportunities to bat this season, attempted to accelerate before being removed by Marco Jansen for 24. Naman Dhir joined Suryakumar in the middle, and the combination scored 48 runs in the final two overs. Despite Vyshak scoring 23 runs in his penultimate over, MI fell short of the 190-run barrier, finishing at 184/7. Jansen was PBKS’ best bowler with 2/34, while Vyshak and Arshdeep Singh each took vital wickets.
