On Sunday, April 20, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Punjab Kings (PBKS) plodded to 157/6 after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and chose to bowl first.
With a 42-run opening partnership off just 26 balls, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya got their team off to a fast start. But in the fifth over, Krunal Pandya was added to the attack, and he quickly turned the tide of the match.
The two openers were removed in quick succession by the Baroda all-rounder, and PBKS scored 62 runs in the first seven overs. In the ninth over, Krunal made a superb catch to eliminate Shreyas Iyer. After a regrettable misunderstanding with Josh Inglis, Nehal Wadhera was run out in the next over.
With the assistance of Shashank Singh, the Australian batsman-wicketkeeper attempted to salvage the innings. To keep the scoreboard moving, Inglis produced some incredible ramp shots. But in the 14th over, Suyash Sharma hit twice, dismissing both Marcus Stoinis and Inglis.
In the 14th over, at 114/6, PBKS was facing certain defeat. Every member on the RCB team appeared eager for victory, and their fielding was amazing. Despite some outstanding bowling from Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the final overs, Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen suppressed their impulses and put together an undefeated 43-run partnership off 37 balls.
Both on the field and at bat, RCB’s performance was admirable. The PBKS hitters’ lack of application made their job simpler, even if the pitch was beneficial for both pacers and spinners. Jansen ended on 25*, while Shashank finished on 31*.
This dow can be pursued: Krunal
Krunal praised his team for keeping the opposition to 157 at the mid-innings break. Krunal concluded with statistics of 2/25 in his 20 overs. According to the all-rounder, RCB needs to bat effectively during the powerplay in order to successfully chase the target.
“A fair amount of effort. They placed us under strain with their powerplay start. It took a lot of work from that vantage point to limit them to 157. Pace-on deliveries were much easier to handle when the fast bowlers bowled, I discovered. The slower you bowl, the harder it is for hitters on this wicket, I discovered. We must bat with great skill. The powerplay becomes essential. “We can chase this down if we bat to our potential,” Krunal stated after the first inning.
