Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Match 65 of the IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, scoring 231 for the cost of six wickets. RCB captain Jitesh Sharma won the toss and chose to field first. The decision did not go their way, as the opposing hitters went all out from the start.

SRH got off to a flying start, thanks to opener Abhishek Sharma, who scored 34 runs off just 17 deliveries during the powerplay. He and Travis Head added 54 runs in only 25 balls for the first wicket. However, both batters were dismissed in short succession, allowing RCB to recover.

Heinrich Klaasen scored a fast 24 off 13 balls, while Aniket Verma made 26 off just nine. The innings’ highlight was Ishan Kishan’s spectacular unbeaten knock of 98 off 48 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and five sixes. Romario Shepherd had a decent bowling performance for RCB, taking two wickets for 14 runs in two overs.

RCB has already secured a position in the IPL 2025 playoffs and is now second in the points table with 17 points. A victory in this match would propel them to the top of the table. On the other hand, SRH has been ousted from the tournament and is ranked ninth with only four wins. The Pat Cummins-led team will be looking to conclude the season on a high note with a victory at Ekana.

“I believe when we (Head and himself) played the first over, we thought we had one of the best pitches this season. We must keep an eye out for our minor errors. We must accept responsibility and see it through to completion. “Head and I were hoping to score 230-240 runs,” Abhishek Sharma stated in between innings.

“We had a plan, and we were going to execute it (during the innings). The score is good. I believe it was pending from his (Kishan’s) side. He was discussing this. This score is solely due to Kishan’s exceptional performance. Let’s see what Pat Cummins feels today (about Abhishek being compelled to bowl),” he added.
