In reaction to a photo shared by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor with the former cricketer, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir wrote a mysterious remark about how the truth behind a coach’s so-called unrestricted authority finally becomes obvious. Tharoor had described Gambhir as having the second-hardest job in the nation, behind the prime minister, in the post.
After visiting Gambhir in Nagpur, the site of the first Twenty20 International against New Zealand, Tharoor posted the photo. Abhishek Sharma’s ferocious knock and the Indian attack’s combined bowling effort helped India overcome the visitors by 48 runs in that game.
“I had a nice and honest conversation with my old friend @GautamGambhir in Nagpur.
He has the hardest job in India, second only to PMs! Millions of people doubt him every day, but he remains composed and continues to move forward unfazed. A note of gratitude for his capable leadership and quiet resolve. I’m wishing him the best of luck, beginning now! Tharoor posted #INDvNZT20 on X.
“Many thanks, Dr. @ShashiTharoor! The reality and logic about a coach’s purported “unlimited authority” will become evident as the dust settles. I find it amusing to be placed against my own, who are the best, until then,” Gambhir said.
Thanks a lot Dr @ShashiTharoor! When the dust settles, truth & logic about a coach’s supposedly “unlimited authority” will become clear. Till then I’m amused at being pitted against my own who are the very best! https://t.co/SDNzLt73v5

There have been many highs and lows throughout Gambhir’s time as India’s head coach. He has had tremendous success in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), leading India to an Asia Cup victory and going undefeated in bilateral series thus far. As a result, the side is favoured going into the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7.
Gambhir has had a checkered but respectable career in Test cricket. Under Shubman Gill’s leadership, India won home series against Bangladesh and the West Indies and achieved a 2-2 series draw in England. However, the team experienced infrequent defeats at home, losing to South Africa last year and New Zealand in 2024.
In ODI cricket, his record has been less consistent. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, Gambhir guided India to an ICC Champions Trophy victory, but the side also suffered away series defeats in Australia and Sri Lanka. More recently, New Zealand won their first-ever ODI series on Indian soil after defeating India in a home series.
