After a run of poor performances in the past, Sanju Samson has disclosed how the support of former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir helped him restore confidence. Samson has so far played in 16 ODIs and 42 T20Is for India.
During the Duleep Trophy, Sanju Samson recounted an event in which Suryakumar Yadav assured him that he would give him more games to demonstrate his abilities.
Suddenly, after the T20 World Cup, things changed. Thus, Surya entered as the captain and Gautam bhai entered. In Andhra, I was participating in a Duleep Trophy match. Surya was a member of the opposing side. “There is a good opportunity coming up for you,” he informed me. I’ll give you an overview of all seven of our upcoming games as an introduction. “It felt amazing to hear the captain’s words come straight from his mouth,” Samson said on Ravichandran Ashwin’s podcast.
He then offered his thoughts on Gautam Gambhir advice to a struggling Samson following the 2024 Sri Lanka series’ dismal start.
“I didn’t score any runs in my two games in Sri Lanka. In the changing room, I was feeling a little depressed when Gautam bhai approached me and enquired about the situation. “I got a chance after a long time, but I failed to capitalise,” I said. “So what?” he asked. If you register 21 ducks, I’ll drop you. He continued, “Those are the words that he used.”
It was undoubtedly difficult to experience such emotions: Sanju Samson
Prior to discussing his feelings over not being a member of the national squad, Sanju Samson said that Gambhir and Suryakumar’s faith in his skills was very beneficial.
“My confidence has undoubtedly increased as a result of the coach and captain’s confidence. I was able to go out there and perform because of that. Being on and off the team and all of that stuff was going on for a long time, so I knew this thing, so to be honest, I feel like it was not easy, and I believe it was absolutely not easy to have those types of thoughts,” Samson said.
Sanju Samson also talked about how he came to terms with the failures he had previously faced.
“For example, I played in only 15 games or something, but I nearly finished my eight or nine-year international career. I always made an effort to maintain a really optimistic attitude. “Okay, it will happen, but different people have different journeys,” I would constantly remind myself. “Your journey is different,” he continued.
Since the unmemorable 2024 trip of Sri Lanka, Samson has amassed three hundreds for India in Twenty20 Internationals.
