Former India hitter Gautam Gambhir said that Australia is “vulnerable” following the Pat Cummins-led team’s semifinal victory over South Africa, which puts them in the 2023 ODI World Cup final versus India. On November 19, the intense match will take place in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
In the summit match, the 42-year-old thinks India will be comfortable taking on the five-time champions. With a commanding 70-run victory over New Zealand in Mumbai, the Men in Blue guaranteed their place in the championship match.
“Australia didn’t seem to be playing at their best in the semifinals. Although they still have a lot of vulnerabilities, Australia is capable of winning these elimination matches. In the final, as they have been doing for the past ten games, India will need to bring their best.
Gautam Gambhir stated on Star Sports following Australia’s semifinal victory that “India will be very confident against Australia in Ahmedabad.”
In the semifinal, Australia defeated South Africa by three wickets.
In reference to the second semifinal, on November 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, South Africa chose to bat first after winning the toss. Their choice to dismiss Temba Bavuma backfired, as they lost two wickets in the opening ten overs.
David Miller led the charge and produced a vital century to help his team amass 212 runs when South Africa was reeling at 24/4. Miller scored 101 runs off of 116, with five maximums and eight boundaries. The best bowlers were Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who each took three wickets, while Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head each took two wickets.
Australia also got off to a jittery start, losing two wickets in the opening ten overs as Travis Head and David Warner scored early runs. But in the rain-affected match, Head led Australia’s innings with a 48-ball, 62-run effort as they reached the mark in 47.2 overs. For the Proteas, Tabraiz Shamsi and Gerald Coetzee both claimed two wickets.
