Head coach Gautam Gambhir allegedly invited the entire squad and support staff to dinner at his Delhi apartment on Wednesday evening, ahead of India’s second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 10.
According to insiders, Gambhir plans to throw the dinner in his backyard as an open-air gathering for the players to unwind and socialise ahead of the match. However, if rain interrupts the weather in the capital, the event may be cancelled.
This will be one of Gautam Gambhir first significant off-field gestures since becoming India’s head coach.
The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0 after a convincing victory in the first Test at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. India trounced the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs, courtesy to clinical performances by Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, and Dhruv Jurel, who all scored centuries.

Jadeja also picked up eight wickets across both innings to earn the Player of the Match award, while Mohammed Siraj (seven wickets) and Jasprit Bumrah (three wickets) made crucial contributions with the ball. Meanwhile, the West Indies were bowled out for 162 and 146 in their two innings, while India declared at 448/5.
With the second Test scheduled in the capital city, the players are expected to train at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 8 before heading to Gambhir’s residence later in the evening. India currently sits third in the ICC World Test Championship standings, with three wins, a draw, and two losses. The team will look to clean sweep the series and gain important points before moving to the overseas tour.
