When India beat Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final to secure a spot in the championship match, Virat Kohli lived up to his reputation as a chase master. With a comfortable 84, Kohli made sure that India was getting closer to the finish line. However, careful strike rotation and quick running between the wickets allowed India to chase down the 265-run goal set by Steven Smith’s Australia, while Kohli’s effort only included 20 runs coming off the five boundaries he hit.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir was asked to describe the atmosphere in the dressing room when the 36-year-old bats during a run chase after Kohli’s amazing effort.
Everyone was caught off guard when Gambhir responded that the feeling is the same as that of other players in the team, stating that each batter on the team is equally important.
“Whoever is in the middle feels the same way. Everyone matters. Whether Virat or someone else is in the centre, it feels the same. It’s all about playing for the nation in the end. At the post-match press conference, Gambhir stated, “Everyone matters when you are representing your country.”
