In the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, the Indian cricket team defeated New Zealand, earning Gautam Gambhir his first championship as head coach. After India won the T20 World Cup in 2024, Gambhir was tasked with stepping in for Rahul Dravid, but he was heavily criticised for the New Zealand series and the Border Gavaskar Trophy outcomes. At the same time, he firmly silenced his detractors and helped India win their second Champions Trophy.
Amidst the intense festivities at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Gambhir and former cricket player Navjot Singh Sidhu had a pleasant and enjoyable conversation. The recipient of Gambhir’s poetic endeavour was Sidhu, who is renowned for his poetic flare.
Sidhu finished the verse after Gambhir started it, saying, “Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janab….,” “Saapon ke darr se jungle nahi chhore jaate.”
On social media, Sidhu posted the scene after being deeply impacted, stating, “The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say……” You can count on @GautamGambhir to stay. Best wishes to him and the Indian cricket team. India was proud of you, brother.
Gautam Gambhir was hesitant to perform a Bhangra dance when Sidhu playfully challenged him to do so.
He did strike a Bhangra pose, but he didn’t dance, even though Sidhu kept telling him to.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, commended Gambhir after the game for embracing his aggressive style of play.
“Although I’m not naturally good at offensive games, I really wanted to do it. The staff and management must support you when you try something new, and they did just that for me. Rahul bhai supported me during the ODI World Cup, and Gauti Bhai has now done the same. That assistance is essential,” Rohit said.
