Adam Gilchrist, a former captain of the Punjab Kings and an Australia icon, believes that Shreyas Iyer would win the Orange Cap in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), surpassing players like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the run-scoring statistics.
Iyer has only had one 500-run season in his IPL career, which occurred in 2020. He was purchased for an incredible 26.75 cr at the super auction. Gilchrist, however, continued to predict that the PBKS captain will lead the run-scoring charts this year.
In an IPL 2025 preview, Gilchrist stated on the Club Prairie Fire YouTube channel, “Shreyas Iyer is going to be my orange cap wearer by the end of IPL 2025.”
Adam Gilchrist also supported the first-ever IPL victory for Punjab Kings.
The Kings, who have yet to win the IPL, might perhaps achieve triumph with the combo of Ricky Ponting and Iyer, he asserted.
“I believe that franchise will be inspired by the partnership between Ricky Ponting and Shreyas Iyer. They’ve collaborated effectively in the past [at DC]. And that will serve as the unifying factor to unite the ownership.
It was a little unpredictable at times, but it’s still a very, very comparable ownership to when I was captain. However, I believe Ricky and Shreyas will work things out.
On the same program, former England captain Michael Vaughan selected Shubman Gill to wear the orange cap and the Mumbai Indians to win the IPL.
