Glenn Maxwell, a star all-rounder, has been ruled out of the forthcoming T20 series against New Zealand after breaking his bowling arm during a net session. Notably, Maxwell was bowling to Mitchell Owen in the nets on the eve of the match, when a direct shot from the pinch hitter damaged Maxwell’s right arm, causing him to retire from the series.
For the unknown, Glenn Maxwell was immediately transported for scans, which confirmed the severity of the injury.
With the Melbourne-born senior cricketer ruled out, Australia was forced to rely on wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe for the duration of the series, which begins on October 1 at Mount Maunganui’s Bay Oval.
“I noticed it from the corner of my eye. We’re training under a marquee, so it’s quite echo-y and noisy. I watched (Owen) smoke it, and in the aftermath, it struck Maxi on the wrist. Cricket.com.au paraphrased Short as stating, “It didn’t sound good.”
“(Owen) is not the guy you want to bowl to during T20 training. Maxi has been there and gone through that (severe injuries) several times; he was unhappy, but it’s just like any other injury. “I am confident he will get through it,” he continued.
Australia squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Matt Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa
