The Gujarat Titans (GT), led by Shubman Gill, finished a disappointing ninth last season after reaching the final in the first two seasons. Nevertheless, GT has chosen to retain Gill as captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in spite of a lacklustre campaign, with the goal of winning the championship again.
According to GT COO Arvinder Singh, Gill, who finished the 2024 Indian Premier League with 426 runs at 38.72, had glimmers of strong leadership last season, earning him another season as captain.
“The cricketing community as a whole, not just us, has high hopes for him. As a player, there are high hopes for him. Since last year, GT has provided him with the chance to develop his leadership abilities. In a conversation with News18 on February 15 (Saturday), Singh stated, “He is still leading the team and will be captain again this season.”
According to him, it’s an amazing platform with a large number of games, players, and various circumstances to manage. He performs outside of his own state in seven different locations.
Thus, it’s a tremendous chance for him. He has demonstrated his qualifications thus far, including last year. Even though we didn’t have a fantastic season, we were persuaded to keep supporting him as captain after seeing glimmers of his leadership.”
Singh thinks the team will undoubtedly learn from his knowledge from the previous season as well as his time spent serving as India’s ODI vice-captain.
“We are sure that the experience he acquired the previous season and his current position as the Indian team’s vice-captain in the 50-over format will help him.” You can tell that he is in good shape, and it is equally crucial to expect that he will maintain that momentum into the Champions Trophy. He is becoming as a vital member of both Team India and GT,” he stated.
Singh has likened Shubman Gill’s appointment to Hardik Pandya’s nomination as GT captain,
When numerous concerns were voiced over his capacity for leadership. In response, Hardik won the IPL in his first season as manager.
“Allow me to transport you back to 2022, when Hardik was named captain. Similar conversations took place at the time; he had never captained before, and there were many misgivings and questions about his preparedness. However, Singh stated, “We thought he was the best candidate for the position, and he proved it.”
Shubman is no different. He is a promising young player who has already demonstrated his abilities in cricket. Leadership abilities are acquired in the field rather than in a classroom. He is surrounded by a solid support network that assisted him last year and will continue to do so.
