After a successful WPL 2025 auction, the Gujarat Giants, owned by Adani Sportsline, announced exciting additions to their roster for the next campaign.
At Rs. 1.70 crores, West Indian star Deandra Dottin was the Gujarat Giants’ first acquisition. After being acquired for Rs. 1.90 crores, Simran Shaikh became the most costly player of the day. For Rs. 30 lakh, English all-rounder Danielle Gibson was acquired, and the Gujarat Giants’ haul was completed with Prakashika Naik. Ten lakh rupees was paid for her services.
The Gujarat Giants’ emphasis on power hitting has strengthened their lineup. A seasoned player with 123 T20 Internationals, Deandra Dottin adds skill with the ball and explosive firepower to the top order. Simran Shaikh, who has nine WPL appearances under her belt, is an all-around player who contributes versatility and rapid scoring in the middle and lower order.
Prakashika Naik, a 23-year-old leg spinner and bowling all-rounder, will make her WPL debut alongside Danielle Gibson.
Regarding the WPL 2025 squad, Pranav Adani, Managing Director-Agro, Oil & Gas, Adani Group, said, “I’m thrilled with the result. Our team worked really well behind the scenes before this auction. To the entire support staff, congratulations for your amazing work in assembling such a formidable team. We now look forward to an exciting and successful season after completing this pivotal phase. As the players and coaching staff set out on this trip, I send my warmest regards to them all.
CBO Sanjay Adesara of Adani Sportsline stated, “We are quite pleased with the auction’s result. We arrived at the auction table with a well-thought-out plan and prepared, and I’m happy to report that we gave it our all. With our current strong team that has a wonderful balance of youth and experience, we are quite optimistic about our chances of having a successful season.
Head Coach Michael Klinger remarked, “We are happy to get the players we wanted,” in reference to the WPL auction. Our top goal was to select guys who had a real possibility of cracking the starting lineup. Deandra’s skill with the ball and her power with the bat are the main reasons we are thrilled to have her back.
He went on to say, “Simran Shaikh is yet another important team member. Her strike rate is quick, and she carries a lot of power. Only a select few women’s cricket players possess the ability. What you want in a squad is healthy competition, and I believe she will foster that among the Indian hitters for a spot on the team.
