Gujarat Titans (GT), a renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) team, are prepared to keep Shubman Gill, one of the biggest names in Indian cricket, as their captain. Additionally, GT has stated that Rashid Khan, the standout Afghanistan all-rounder, will remain with the squad past the IPL 2025 retention date.
In addition to them, Sai Sudharsan’s retention with the team brought him attention. However, because of his injury issues, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is unlikely to be retained, which will be great news for Gujarat supporters. Young players like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan are probably going to be kept ahead of uncapped guys.
“Shubman, Rashid, and Sai will be retained by the franchise,” an IPL source told India.com.
Notably, Shubman Gill is frequently thought of as Team India’s future leader and the next great thing. The Fazilika native has previously guided GT in the 2024 Indian Premier League. But in the 10-team competition, the previous champions were suffering in eighth place. It’s interesting to note that the team made history in their first season in the IPL by winning the gold on their very first try. Hardik Pandya, India’s best all-round player at the time, captained the team during their debut campaign.
Furthermore, the insider indicated that Rashid Khan will probably continue with GT despite rumours that he was approached by Mumbai Indians. In the IPL 2022 season, the talismanic leg spinner took 19 wickets, and in the following season, he improved that total with 27 victims. However, he had a disappointing season with the ball in hand, taking just 10 wickets in the 2024 edition of India’s largest cricket carnival. He averaged 36.70 while playing in 12 games.
RTM will return in the 2025 IPL, allowing for the retention of six players.
In relation to the eagerly awaited IPL 2025 mega auctions, it is expected that they would occur outside of India. Since the bidding war will begin in late November, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is currently anticipated to be a front-runner. For those who are unaware, the total budget for the auction has been increased to INR 120 crore this time, which is 20 crore higher than the IPL teams’ budget from the previous year.
The salary cap will now be determined by the overall amount of money raised during the auction, with performance-based raises to be handed out separately. Additionally, match fees will be included, with a minimum of INR 7.5 lacs each game.
