Regarding the same, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who was a member of the team that won the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007, spoke out about the demanding IPL schedule and expressed his wish that the BCCI will adhere to an ECB-style schedule.
Numerous players have participated in the current IPL season, with the T20 World Cup 2024 rapidly approaching. The World Cup-bound Indian team will not have a complete training camp because the major tournament is scheduled to conclude on May 26.
It’s important to note that a number of English players will miss the rest of the IPL because they have an approaching Pakistan T20I series, which will aid in their preparation for the T20 World Cup. Fans won’t get to witness players like Jos Buttler and Phil Salt in action.
“I think it is really hard to bring everyone together to play a few matches with the current IPL schedule. However, before the competition begins, we do have two games in America,” Harbhajan Singh confirmed to the Hindustan Times.
“Yes, I think it would have been preferable for them to play four or five games together, against a great team in America, like Australia or England, simply to get used to those conditions. However, it doesn’t appear to be the case,” he continued.
For ten to fifteen days, the team should play together: Harbhajan Singh
In addition, Harbhajan discussed how the Indian team will try to maximise the few games they have left for the World Cup, considering that practicing together for ten to fifteen days prior to the competition will benefit the team.
“However, we must now make the most of the brief opportunity we have, those two games. It’s a really good idea moving ahead. The team should practise together for ten to fifteen days before a competition like the World Cup or WTC, according to the former cricket player.
India is grouped with Canada, Ireland, Pakistan, and the United States in Group A for the T20 World Cup, which kicks off on June 5. In their opening match of the competition, they will play Ireland, and they will be looking to start strong.
