Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh recently disclosed that it had been more than a decade since he last communicated with the great skipper, MS Dhoni. The players who were instrumental in the Indian team’s victories in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup revealed some special on-field memories. Harbhajan collected 7 and 9 wickets in these tournaments, respectively.
They interacted in a very professional manner while Harbhajan was playing for the Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2020. They didn’t engage in any personal contact outside of the boundary lines, and even during this time, their chats were limited to the cricket ground.
“No, Dhoni is not someone I talk to. Although we haven’t communicated since I was playing at CSK, that is when we did. At least ten years have passed. I don’t know why; maybe he does. I have no idea what the causes are. At CSK, we used to converse throughout our IPL games, but that conversation was limited to the field. He never returned to my room after that, and I never went to his,” Harbhajan Singh told News18.
Nothing about him bothers me: Harbhajan Singh
In 2015, Harbhajan and Dhoni played together for India in an ODI match against South Africa. Harbhajan was forced to leave the national squad after the 2015 World Cup and eventually declared his retirement from all cricket-related activities in 2021.
“I have nothing left against him. He can tell me anything he wants to say. He would have informed me by now, though, if he did. Because I’m so passionate, I’ve never tried to call him. I only call the people who answer. Other than that, I don’t have time. Those that I am friends with, I keep in touch. Give and take is a constant in a relationship. I hope you will respect me in return if I do the same. if you reply to me. I will likely just meet with you as often as necessary, the spinner said, if I phone you a couple of times and don’t hear back.
With each other, the players have participated in 210 international matches, comprising 135 ODIs, 26 T20Is, and 49 Test matches. Together, the veterans of CSK wore the yellow jersey 46 times and were a member of the victorious IPL squad in 2018.
