Mumbai Indians (MI-W) Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur became just the second Indian batter, after Smriti Mandhana, to score 8000 runs in women’s T20 cricket, adding yet another milestone to her remarkable career. The historic occurrence occurred during the second match of the 2025 WPL versus the Delhi Capitals (DC-W) Women at Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium.
With more than ten years of experience, the 35-year-old batsman has been a vital member of India’s middle order. The only other Indian batsman who has more T20 runs than she has, however, is Mandhana, who tops the lists with 8349. With 8005 runs, Harmanpreet is in second place, followed by Shafali Verma (4542 runs) and Jemimah Rodrigues (5826 runs).
Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt score 73 runs together.
After the former champions lost two early wickets, the right-hander entered the game at number four and delivered a spirited knock that kept the innings steadied. During the fifth over, she entered the game and immediately began playing her shots. In just 22 balls, she scored 42 runs, hitting three sixes and four boundaries.
Harmanpreet’s innings created a vital 73-run partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt and helped MI-W surpass the 100-run milestone in just 11 overs. However, Annabel Sutherland got her out for 42, ending her knock. Her innings, however short of a half-century, was vital to MI’s 164-run total.
The team lost the toss and had to bat first. They suffered early losses as Shikha Pandey dismissed both openers, Hayley Matthews (0) and Yastika Bhatia (11) at inexpensive prices. Averaging an undefeated 80* off 59 balls with 13 boundaries, Sciver-Brunt served as the innings’ mainstay. MI failed to get contributions from the lower order, as they were bowled out for 164 in 19.1 overs, despite Harmanpreet’s brisk effort providing strong support.
