Even after Jack was fired, the Three Lions never gave up. Livingstone quickly put on a brilliant innings of 33 not out off 20 balls after joining Harry Brook at the crease. They exceeded the necessary run rate thanks to this partnership’s further acceleration of the scoring rate.
The third One-Day International (ODI) between Australia and England took place at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday, September 24, as part of the continuing series. England won the toss and chose to bowl first to start the match. After taking the lead 0-2 and winning the first two games, the visitors needed one more victory to win the series.
Australian starter Matthew Short and captain Mitchell Marsh left the game early, having amassed just 14 and 24 runs, respectively, at the start of play. The foundation of the Australian innings was provided by Alex Carey’s undefeated 77 and Steve Smith’s valiant half-century (60 off 82).
Aaron Hardie (44 off 26) and Cameron Green (42 off 49) added the late flourish and made important cameos in the middle. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who hit a 25-ball 30-run, also contributed a little. In the 50 overs that they were given, the visitors amassed a respectable 304/7.
Jofra Archer was England’s main ball-scraper, taking two wickets in his allotted ten overs. Liam Livingstone, Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell, and Brydon Carse each claimed one wicket.
Together, Harry Brook and Will Jacks scored 156 runs.
Similar to the last game, England’s chase was unsteady as they lost openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt early to Mitchell Starc’s bowling. The hosts appeared to be having problems at 11/2. But Jack and Harry Brook had different ideas.
With a partnership of 156 runs off 147 deliveries, the two turned the tide totally in England’s favour. Jacks made an outstanding 84 off 82 balls, and the substitute captain of the host side hit an undefeated 110 off 94 deliveries. The Australian bowling attack was under tremendous pressure from their forceful batting, which featured 22 fours and three sixes between them.
Rain stopped play, but in 37.4 overs, England reached 254/4, easily 46 runs ahead of the required score. Persistent showers caused the authorities to call off the match, giving the hosts a victory via the DLS system despite attempts to resume play.

Starc and Green both took two wickets for Australia. In the meantime, Brook’s first ODI century earned him the Player of the Match title.
