Harsha Bhogle, a renowned commentator, announced his Test Team of the Year for 2025, which comprised players who performed in this format this year. Notably, his XI featured four Indians.
KL Rahul was Bhogle’s first-choice opener. Rahul, who has established his opening place this year, has 813 runs from 19 innings at an average of 45. Bhogle viewed him as the ultimate Test opener: poised, technically sound, and dependable in difficult situations. Travis Head, an unusual choice for a partner, is joining Rahul. Despite not being a regular opener for most of the season, Head produced when given the opportunity, including two match-winning innings in the ongoing Ashes.
At number three, the commentator slotted India’s current Test skipper, Shubman Gill. His experience as an opener earlier in his career and now as a No. 4 batter convinced Bhogle that he would transition smoothly into the role. Gill finished the year with 983 runs and five centuries, putting him in contention for Test Player of the Year. The middle order is anchored by two modern greats. Joe Root takes the number four spot, while Steve Smith bats at five.
Pat Cummins named captain
At six, he slotted Ravindra Jadeja, selected primarily as a batting all-rounder. While Jadeja did not have his best year with the ball, Bhogle stated his batting returns with an average of 63.7, and his value as a fifth bowler capable of influencing games late. Behind the stumps Bhogle chose Alex Carey, whom hw felt was simply undroppable. Carey enjoyed a standout year, scoring 743 runs at an average of 53, while also excelling with the gloves, particularly standing up to fast bowlers and spinners.
The bowling attack is led by Mitchell Starc, whom the veteran named his Test Player of the Year. Starc finished with 51 wickets at an average of 17, carrying Australia’s attack when others were unavailable. Pat Cummins slots in as both bowler and captain. Despite playing only six Tests, Cummins took 26 wickets at 16.53, and Bhogle praised his leadership.
For the third seamer, he selected Mohammed Siraj. The Indian pacer’s tireless spells and fighting spirit throughout the year earned him the nod over Jasprit Bumrah, whose workload was carefully managed. The lone specialist spinner in the XI, Simon Harmer, was picked for his excellence.
My test team of 2025 with some special accolades at the end. Do you agree?https://t.co/ghuJLVwQYL
