Pakistan has suffered a severe blow ahead of their crucial match against South Africa on Friday, October 27, as their star pacer Hasan Ali is out of the contest. It is said that fever was the cause of his rejection. The bowler was unable to attend the team’s Thursday training session due to illness. He is anticipated to be fully recovered for the remaining games, though.
The top pacer has been told to take it easy so that he can play in the remaining matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup, according to PCB authorities.
Notably, Hasan Ali is anticipated to be replaced for the match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai by bowling all-rounder Mohammad Wasim Jr.
With regard to his World Cup campaign thus far, the Punjab-born cricket player has been an essential member of the Men in Green team. Against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, he has claimed eight wickets in five games, with a best of 4/71. He has also given runs at a respectable 5.82 per over, indicating good economy.
For those who are unaware, the pacer was enlisted to join the Pakistani team as a last-minute substitute for Naseem Shah, who was injured. Many were surprised to see him join the team because they thought players like Zaman Khan would be chosen first. The 29-year-old didn’t let anyone down, though, as he is now second only to Shaheen Shah Afridi in terms of wickets taken.
Pakistan must win or lose in order to qualify.
The team captained by Babar Azam has had a miserable tournament thus far, winning just two of their five matches, including victories over Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, respectively. They had to lose to Australia, Afghanistan, and India, which puts the team in a difficult situation because their semi-final qualification scenario has grown more complicated.
To put it simply, Babar & Co. must perform well for the remainder of the league stage since they cannot afford to lose their remaining matches against Bangladesh, South Africa, England, or New Zealand.
