Former South African captain Hashim Amla inexplicably left out the renowned Sachin Tendulkar when picking his three best batters of all time. Amla confirmed his picks for the World Championship of Legends (WCL) in England, where the South African Champions would face the Indian Champions.
Hashim Amla recently made headlines for an unexpected exclusion on his ranking of the three best batters of all time.
In an interview, Amla selected his top three, and many fans were surprised to see Sachin Tendulkar, the former India captain, not on the list.
Amla stated that his three favourite batters growing up were West Indies batter Brian Lara, Australian all-rounder Steve Waugh, and South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis. However, he has now chosen former India captain Virat Kohli, former South African colleague AB de Villiers, and the legendary Sir Vivian Richards.
“There have been so many excellent players throughout the years. Growing up, my three favourite players were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis, all of whom were from South Africa. But now, I’d pick three additional names-Virat Kohli in recent years, AB de Villiers, and Sir Vivian Richards from the old days,” Amla stated in an interview with Star Sports, omitting the all-time leading run-scorer in international cricket.
The 42-year-old Amla is now in England, representing South Africa Champions in the second season of the WCL. South Africa won their opening match of the ongoing edition in a bowl-out over the West Indies. Amla started the batting, scoring 15 off 18 balls. The DLS target for 11 overs was 81, and the AB de Villiers-led team concluded on 80/6.
In the bowl-out, JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell hit the stumps for South Africa as they bowled first. Meanwhile, Fidel Edwards, Sheldon Cottrell, Ashley Nurse, and Dwayne Bravo missed for the West Indies as they suffered a gut-wrenching defeat in their first game of the season.
