Mohammad Azharuddin’s name must be taken down from the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium’s North Pavilion Stand in Uppal, Hyderabad, per an order from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Additionally, the cricket regulating body has been directed to ensure that going forward, the name of the former India batter does not appear on any tickets. On Saturday, April 19, Justice V Eswaraiah, the HCA’s Ethics Officer and Ombudsman, issued the directive.
The Lords Cricket Club’s petition was being handled by the Ombudsman. He ruled that there was a conflict of interest since Azharuddin,
The former captain of India and president of the HCA, had made a personal choice that favoured him.
The case against Respondent No. 1 (Azharuddin) is strengthened by the fact that the General Body has not ratified or modified the judgement, indicating that the Respondent No. 1 has overreached himself in order to pursue his own interests. In his 25-page ruling, Justice V. Eswaraiah stated, “A clear case of conflict of interest is made out as a result of my findings.”
Lords Cricket Club, the petitioner, begged the Ombudsman to stop Azharuddin’s “high handed” decision to name the North Stand the Mohammed Azharuddin Stand. They requested that the VVS Laxman Stand be utilised “for all practical purposes including but not limited to signages, printing of tickets etc. and pass any such order or orders as are deemed fit and proper in the circumstances of the case and in the interest of justice.”
It was claimed that Azharuddin’s move was unlawful, capricious, and that neither the General Body nor the Apex Council had decided to place the “Mohammed Azharuddin Stand” over the “VVS Laxman Pavilion” name.
Laxman, one of the best Test cricketers to have represented India from Hyderabad, is currently the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. During his remarkable career, the 50-year-old participated in 134 Test matches and 86 One-Day Internationals, scoring 8781 and 2338 runs in each format, respectively. In addition to coaching the Indian team temporarily, Laxman is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
