In the forthcoming IPL 2024 season, former South African captain AB de Villiers has hinted that he may coach Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although there hasn’t been any official word from the team, the 40-year-old claimed that Virat Kohli voiced his wish to have him return to the starting lineup.
After Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers were inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame in 2023, the former cricket player joined the broadcast crew. The cricket player from Pretoria, who just disclosed that he will be joining the broadcast team in Mumbai, has the same plan. He did, nevertheless, leave the door open for a potential coaching position should skipper Faf du Plessis or head coach Andy Flower want him.
Virat has made hints that he might want me to visit and spend some time with him and some of the batters, but nothing is official yet. It will be Andy Flower, Faf, and the team making the call. I will spend the first couple weeks of the IPL in Mumbai for the time being. On his YouTube account, de Villiers stated, “I’m commentating a little bit.”
Notably, AB de Villiers shocked the cricket community by announcing his retirement in November 2022 despite appearing to be in excellent shape the previous season.
In 184 games in the lucrative league, he scored 5162 runs with a 151.69 strike rate. Following his retirement, the former cricket player primarily concentrated on his YouTube account and programming.
However, after Aiden Markram was dismissed as the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, the renowned cricket player expressed that he was “upset.” He emphasized the South African international’s back-to-back SA20 championships won while leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and he predicted a longer tenure for him in that role during the IPL.
Even though Aiden Markram had won back-to-back SA20 tournaments, De Villiers expressed some irritation at seeing Markram shifted across and being forced to make room for Pat Cummins there.
