Barbados Royals resumed their losing streak in CPL 2025, falling to their fourth defeat in five games thanks to Shai Hope and Dwaine Pretorius in the main, while Guyana Amazon Warriors recovered from consecutive losses to win their third game in five in a rain-soaked battle in Bridgetown.
When asked to bat at home, the Royals struggled to get off to a good start, losing Quinton de Kock in the fourth over and Kadeem Alleyne in the seventh, but Brandon King ensured they had a strong powerplay, reaching 43. But he was gone by the eighth over for a 27-ball 39, and Rassie van der Dussen took over to keep things on track, with Eathan Bosch and Sherfane Rutherford shortly following King back to the dugout.
The Royals sought a partnership and found it in van der Dussen and captain Rovman Powell.

Unfortunately, Van der Dussen could never quite speed up, finishing with a 37-ball 45, but Powell did, hammering an undefeated 28-ball 50 with six sixes to propel the Royals to a challenging 165. Gudakesh Motie was the best Amazon Warriors bowler, taking Alleyne and Bosch’ wickets and returning 2 for 16 from four overs.
The Amazon Warriors’ chase began disastrously, prompting fears of a third consecutive loss when they fell to 30 for 4 in the fifth over. Ben McDermott, Moeen Ali, Shimron Hetmyer, and Hassan Khan were all out, with Bosch and Ramon Simmonds scooping up two wickets each at the start.
But there was where the Royals’ fight ended. Hope, who had opened the innings, was still there, and Pretorius joined him at No. 6, and the two put on an 89-run stand in 60 balls despite the rain, which was almost incessant, to put Amazon Warriors ahead.
They were separated when Pretorius was bowled for a 34-ball 53 by Chris Green, and the objective remained a long way off at 119 for 5. Hope and Quentin Sampson ensured that there were no more hiccups, reaching the target with a six and two balls left.
