Recently, Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on the terms used to describe players during the Indian Premier League’s auction process. He expressed his disapproval of the word “sold” being used at the same event and argued in favour of a better term being used more often in the future.
Notably, Uthappa expressed his opinions live during Match 7 of the current IPL 2025 season between Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Lucknow Super Giants. Alongside veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, he was talking about the dynamics of the IPL auctions and why he thought the procedure was a little unfair to cricket players.
Most of the time, it is unfair. “Sold” is a term I dislike. In a JioHotstar statement, Uthappa said, “I hope there will be something respectable in the future.”
Notably, Harbhajan expressed his opinion that the IPL was “unfair” to “good players,” to which Robin Uthappa responded with his words.
“The IPL can be incredibly unfair at times since talented players aren’t given franchises. Shardul Thakur, for example, was not sold during the auction, Harbhajan noted.
Notably, Thakur replaced Mohsin Khan due to an injury. For their first two games, he was included in LSG’s starting lineup. Regarding the current match, he was outstanding with the ball, taking four wickets (4/34) in his allotted four overs.
It is impossible to ignore the point Harbhajan expressed. There were many players on the long list that were not bought on during last year’s IPL 2025 super auction in Jeddah. David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Mustafizur Rahman, and Keshav Maharaj were just a few of the well-known names among them.
