Left-arm quick bowler Jaydev Unadkat relishes being a quintessential Gujarati. In a lighthearted conversation with Jio Cinema, the player from Porbandar expressed immense pride in the culture he has been raised in. “The first thing I do after returning from any tour is eat Jalebi and Gaathiya; that’s being a typical Gujju,” he responded when asked what makes him Gujarati. The same snack is his guilty delight for Sunday afternoons.
Jaydev Unadkat, who led Saurashtra to a second Ranji Trophy victory in the past three years, also admitted his unreserved fondness for buttermilk. “I am unable to consume food without buttermilk. “When I travel outside of India, I take yogurt, combine it with water, and voila, my beloved buttermilk is ready,” said Unadkat. The 32-year-old also revealed his fondness for the homemade wintertime Gujarati sweets his mother would prepare for him to bring on travels. “I bring Makhanas as a refreshment on tour, but my mother’s Til Mandvi Chikki and Adadiya Pak are a must in the winter,” the Lucknow Super Giants player said.
Jaydev Unadkat said he would call MS Dhoni Mota Bhai, Ishan Kishan and Rishab Pant would compete to be Harakh Padudo (enthusiastic and ardent), Cheteshwar Pujara would be Bhagwan No Maanas (the most innocent one), and Surya Kumar Yadav would be Jalebi Jevo Seedho (the most innocent one) (as straight as a Jalebi).
Jaydev Unadkat acknowledged that Ravindra Jadeja would be a better kite flyer if he were speaking about Gujarati celebrations. Unadkat named his closest friend Axar Patel, as the best Garba performer among his teammates when questioned about this. He concluded, “I’ve seen him do it, and he’s good at it, but I believe I’m better than Cheteshwar Pujara.”
