Former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed, who is currently the high-performance director of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has hinted to the administrative board to keep a close eye on Indian cricket team and their mannerisms.
India have been highly successful in the white-ball format since the past several years.
Javed highlighted that the PCB and the cricket team have not been able to perform the basics adequately. He also pointed out to the lack of “quality talent” in the team to have a far-reaching impact on how the team has performed in the past.
“I have looked at India’s success and have tried to execute plans for the betterment of Pakistan cricket. Any cricket nation’s success is based on the quality of its talent. I think we fell away from doing the basic things correctly in our cricket system. No matter who you appoint as captain, coach or selector, unless you have quality talent, nothing changes,” shared Aaqib while speaking on the Pakistan Cricket Board podcast.
He went onto note that constraint can be rectified and also mentioned that his main focus is to get the best out of the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“Quality of talent can be assured by increasing bench strength and competition, and this is only possible with proper infrastructure and a well-defined system. Indications are all there. We have good players, they have combined well and, importantly, there is now a choice of players available. If the World Cup had been in Australia or South Africa, I would have thought differently. But this is the best time for the team to do well,” he added.
Since 2022, Pakistan have seen three first-round exits in as many ICC events (World Cup 2023, T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy 2025). Although their performance in the multi-lateral series and the Asia Cup 2025 showed significant improvement, it remains to be seen how they will establish themselves in the 2026 event.
Pakistan will play a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in the island nation in January 2026. They have been slotted in Group A for the mega event along with India, Netherlands, USA and Namibia.
