India faces another huge dilemma ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston, which begins on July 2, since Jasprit Bumrah’s availability is doubtful. The right-arm bowler was scheduled to play three of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’s five Tests, according to team management.
Sanjay Manjrekar underlined that Bumrah’s presence will considerably improve India’s chances.
Despite his five-wicket haul in the first Test at Leeds, India lost, making the forthcoming Birmingham Test even more important.
“When you break it down, he’s bowled 42 or 43 (43.4) overs in five days, and there’ll be another few days between the first and second Tests.” So, my thinking is to talk to him about how you’re feeling. Talk to his physiotherapist and doctor, watch him in the nets, and if he’s close to 100% fitness, play him,” Manjrekar told JioHotstar.
Manjrekar believes that India’s major triumphs in recent years occurred when the bowlers stepped up to save the team. Despite India’s daunting target of 371 runs in the first Test, England easily chased it down, thanks to a stunning century from Ben Duckett.
“I’m worried about our bowling (without Bumrah) unless Kuldeep Yadav comes to India’s rescue.” India’s greatest victories in recent years have occurred when the bowlers stepped in to save the day. “India simply didn’t score enough runs, but their bowlers saved them,” Manjrekar continued.
The former cricketer also voiced optimism that Rishabh Pant will maintain his impressive form in the series, having struck hundreds in both innings of the first Test.
“He enjoys batting in test cricket. (For) any hitter who scores two hundreds in Test cricket, it drains you mentally rather than physically. However, if you score a hundred in the first innings and have the same kind of reserve 48 hours later, you should be able to score another hundred. Manjrekar said, “That is the hallmark of an exceptional player.”
