There has been much discussion about MS Dhoni’s future in the Indian Premier League ever since BCCI authorities approved the revised retention regulations. For merely INR 4 crore, the officials made it simpler for the Chennai Super Kings to keep their former captain and megastar as an uncapped player. According to the regulations, Indian players who haven’t participated in international cricket in the previous five years may be registered by any team in the uncapped category.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that the two-time World Cup-winning skipper should be kept as a capped player, but it allows CSK to register Dhoni in the uncapped category. He clarified that Sameer Rizvi, a young player in the uncapped category who has excelled in the UPT20 League and finished as the tournament’s second-leading run scorer with 468 runs in 13 games, is someone the team could try to sign.
Additionally, Ashwin clarified that for the upcoming IPL, CSK ought to keep Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. According to him, Gaikwad and Dube can handle the batting department, while Pathirana can make a difference with the ball. He suggested that CSK keep these players and make a significant investment in the mega-auction to get three bowlers and a foreign batsman.
“I’ll offer a new viewpoint. I’ll keep Dhoni, Dube, Pathirana, Jaddu (Ravindra), and Rutu (Ruturaj). Instead of keeping Dhoni as an uncapped player, I’ll keep him as a regular capped player. On his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated, “I’ll keep these five and get Sameer Rizvi as my sixth retention.”
When it comes to the ball, Pathirana is a point of difference. The batting appears to be in order as well. Dube is in the middle order, and Ruturaj Gaikwad is at the top. Your eight overs are already covered because Jadeja is a left-arm spinner. You also appear to have your future covered by keeping Sameer Rizvi.
