The entire world has been anticipating Arjun Tendulkar’s IPL debut, especially the Mumbai Indians supporters. The youthful player finally made his way into the starting XI when Mumbai played the Kolkata Knight Riders in their fourth IPL 2023 game after being signed by the franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun became the first father-son team to play in the IPL upon their debut.
The best batter in the history of the sport and former India captain Tendulkar sobbed as he watched Arjun bowl his first IPL over. When Mumbai played Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18, Arjun stayed in the lineup and fortunately secured his first IPL wicket. When discussing the most well-known father-son duo in the IPL, Ian Bishop disclosed a lesser-known experience with the Master Blaster while commentating live during the SRH vs. MI match.
I won’t say his name, but the floor manager spoke with Sachin and expressed his delight that Arjun is now participating in the IPL. Tears welled up in Sachin’s eyes. And he remarked, “You know, my first over in the IPL went for five when I bowled.” Likewise, Arjun’s first over resulted in five runs. So Sachin kept that in the back of his mind the entire time,” Ian Bishop commented.
Former India player and head coach Ravi Shastri also made a crucial statement on Tendulkar. Shastri responded to Bishop by saying:
He’ll be anxious, though. Arjun’s memory is brought up by Ian Bishop each time he receives the ball.
He’ll forget a handful of his innings, but he won’t forget a single over. Moreover, he has bowled. He would never forget anything, Shastri said.
Arjun picked up his first IPL wicket in just his second game for the five-time champions when he bowled out Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the penultimate delivery of the second innings to end SRH’s chase. It’s interesting to note that veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar, who is known for striking out Sachin for a duck, played in a Ranji Trophy game at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is still the only bowler to have ever given Sachin Tendulkar a duck while playing in the Ranji Trophy. At the same spot fourteen years later, Sachin’s son Arjun took out the SRH fast bowler as the young MI pacer grabbed his first IPL wicket.
