Afghanistan player Ibrahim Zadran has been fined 15% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third One-Day International against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
Ibrahim was judged to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Support Personnel, which prohibits “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”
Furthermore, one demerit point has been added to Ibrahim’s disciplinary record, as this was his first offence in 24 months. When a player accumulates four or more demerit points during a 24-month period, they are turned into suspension points, and the player is suspended. Two suspension points result in a ban for one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
Notably, Demerit Points will remain on a Player’s or Player Support Personnel’s disciplinary record for twenty-four (24) months from the date of imposition, after which they will be erased.
What incident led to the charge on Ibrahim Zadran?
The incident occurred in the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when after returning to the pavilion following his dismissal, Ibrahim hit some equipment near the dressing room with his bat.
Ibrahim admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Graeme La Brooy of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Adrian Holdstock and Ahmad Durrani, third umpire Akbar Ali and fourth umpire Izatullah Safi levelled the charge.
It is worth mention that the Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
