Sandeep Lamichhane, a well-known cricket player from Nepal, has been given an incredible chance to dramatically revive his international career. After his involvement in a widely reported rape case, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved Nepal’s addition of the gifted leg-spinner to their team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
When Sandeep Lamichhane was detained and accused of raping an 18-year-old girl in September 2022, his entire existence was flipped upside down. The young cricketer, who had quickly grown to become one of Nepal’s most cherished sporting stars, was crushed by the accusations.
Sandeep Lamichhane career seemed to be in shambles after he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
However, the situation has drastically changed as a result of a recent decision made by the Patan High Court. The 23-year-old’s earlier conviction and financial penalties were overturned in a recent ruling that exonerated him of all charges. The court’s ruling made it possible for the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to lift his suspension, which might lead to his being able to play for his country once more.
Nepal’s team will be led by Rohit Paudel at the T20 World Cup.
After assessing the circumstances, the ICC moved quickly to allow Nepal to select the young cricketer for the T20 World Cup. With a chance to regain his position, the bowler who was born in Nepal holds the record for being the fastest to reach 100 ODI wickets.
For the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean, CAN has already announced their preliminary 15-man team. Lamichhane’s formal roster addition procedure is already in progress. Group D includes Bangladesh, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Sri Lanka in addition to Nepal.
