Season 3 of the prestigious DP World ILT20 began in a big way on January 11, 2025, bringing together fresh talent from the United Arab Emirates and some of the best cricket players in the world. Famous Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis is one of the tournament’s biggest advocates, seeing the league as a fantastic chance for up-and-coming players to showcase their abilities on a global scale.
In his remarkable career, Waqar has taken 789 international wickets. As a commentator, he has been a crucial part of ILT20 since its beginning. He commended the league’s expansion for its capacity to combine new talent with experience.
“T20 cricket moves so quickly that you lose track of yesterday’s events.” However, I think the D.P. World ILT20 is a great competition.
Due to the opportunity to see fresh faces, it is expanding daily. Not all players are able to view their faces. It is a platform that provides chances for young people,” Waqar told during the DP World ILT20 2025.
Bowlers in the UAE are excellent: Waqar Younis
Waqar spoke about the work of the UAE’s rising stars, especially Fahad Khan, a young player who shocked everyone with a powerful performance. Additionally, he discussed how a league such as DP World ILT20 is helping the players in the United Arab Emirates.
One [who has been outstanding] is Fahad Khan. He has taken one victory in the past few days. Keep in mind, though, that he is eighteen. He will require some time. But he has speed and is cunning. I believe that his future will be bright. For young players—especially those in the UAE—it’s a great platform. The older players were not given the chance to play with them. Waqar went on, “I think this is a great setup.”
The 53-year-old also discussed the UAE bowlers’ excellence, pointing out that they have excelled throughout the competition. The players from these areas would continue to expand in the upcoming years, he predicted.
Many bowlers compete in the ILT20. The quality of these three is debatable. It hasn’t occurred to me in that light. The ILT20 does, however, have bowlers. Absolutely. The UAE boasts excellent bowlers. So perhaps, in the upcoming years, you’ll see better,” the former said.
The experience for both players and fans has improved when the league brought cricketing greats like Waqar, Wasim Akram, Simon Doull, Virender Sehwag, Shoaib Akhtar, and Harbhajan Singh to the commentary panel.
