Prominent Indian wicketkeeper-battler Rishabh Pant recently shared his thoughts on captain Rohit Sharma’s peculiar communication style. The 26-year-old made an appearance on renowned comedian Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel, offering an insight into the player relationships that take place off the pitch.
“I get what he’s saying down there. But when it comes to things off the pitch, I’m not very knowledgeable.” He thought back to a funny episode from the 2024 Indian Premier League, when he was suspended for a match for slow over-rate offences, but still tried to divert Virat Kohli’s attention from behind the sightscreen.
Pant provided an honest response when asked if he understood Rohit Sharma remarks, especially considering his unique Mumbai-style vocabulary.
“We needed to play well since it was one of the most significant games of the season for us. I was considering my options since I was unable to participate in that match,” he continued.
Pant also had a cordial conversation regarding his friendship with former India head coach Ravi Shastri. He commended Shastri’s style of teaching, especially his outlandish suggestions for dealing with off-spinners.
With Ravi Bhai, there was a great deal of liberty and understanding: Rishabh Pant
It was a wonderful partnership. With Ravi Bhai, there was a great deal of understanding and freedom. He would present me with a better choice rather than instructing me not to do something. That’s the strategy I support. When someone tells me something can’t be done, I dislike it. At one time I was often getting out to off-spinners. He advised me to take action in order to deal with off-spinners. “He requested that I begin using the reverse sweep against off-spinners,” he said in closing.
