On Sunday, September 28, India and Pakistan met in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Tensions were obvious during the toss, as Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha did not shake hands, as they had in the previous two group-stage and Super Four meetings.
There was no official handshake between them. Match referee Andy Pycroft, who refereed both of the archrivals’ bouts, was not on the final roster because Richie Richardson was there instead of Pycroft, who has been at the core of the no-handshake controversy.
In yet another deviation from the norm, veteran Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis attended the toss and chatted with Agha rather than Ravi Shastri. Normally, only one broadcaster appears during the toss.
