The young and rapidly developing star of team India, Shubman Gill, has surpassed Babar Azam to become the number one batter in the ICC ODI rankings. He now shares the top spot with his teammate, Mohammad Siraj, who is also the number one bowler. Deep Dasgupta, a StarCast presenter and former Indian cricketer, gave a preview of India’s final league match against the Netherlands in an exclusive interview with Star Sports’ “Follow the Blues.” He discussed the team’s strategy and the value of having a positive environment. He also talked about whether the Indian playing eleven for the next game needs to be adjusted in any way.
Speaking on India’s strategy and the value of creating the ideal atmosphere for the team, Dasgupta stated, “It is very important to have one’s gamelan right.” Nothing like it if one has a solid game plan and the mental fortitude to stick to it, as in the end, that’s what it all comes down to. And then the execution process begins.
The squad may therefore learn strategy, mental toughness, and execution from Rohit or Virat as they have demonstrated these qualities for a considerable amount of time. The environment of the team is another element. It is the senior players’ duty to keep the team environment intact. All of this team’s senior players—Rohit, Virat, and Shami—are quite secure. Shami was so confident in himself that he didn’t even indicate that he was sad that he wasn’t playing in the opening few games. Whether it’s for Siraj or Prasidh Krishna, he always sees himself as a tutor. Senior players on this squad are responsible for creating that atmosphere, and they are doing a fantastic job at it.
Speaking about the fact that Gill, Siraj, and the Indian team are all rated #1 in the ICC rankings, Deep Dasgupta stated, “Yes, it’s very good news, and we are very happy with these rankings.”
The most significant aspect of this is that these boys are next generation athletes. For example, Mohammed Siraj, who is currently ranked #1 in bowling, will be India’s next generation pacer, and Shubman Gill, who is currently ranked #1 in hitting, will be the team’s next generation batter. Given that we are discussing players from the upcoming generation, I believe that ranking one is a really good thing in and of itself. Therefore, it is evident that the beacon is gradually moving in that direction, and our cricket team is in very capable hands going forward.
When asked if there should be any adjustments made to India’s playing eleven for the forthcoming game, Dasgupta responded, “No, I wouldn’t want to see any changes because I am against making unnecessary changes.” I felt the same way even during the Asia Cup‘s most recent league encounter against Bangladesh: there was no need for adjustments. Because I think that if something isn’t broken, it shouldn’t need to be fixed, and making needless changes can throw off the team’s equilibrium.
