Shubman Gill captivated the cricket world with his incredible exhibition of talent and mindset during the just concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy versus England in the United Kingdom. The Punjab hitter led the Indian team from the front as the Asian giants drew 2-2 with a more experienced England side.

When Gill was named captain of the Test team ahead of the tour, he was averaging around 35. Some critics questioned his selection, claiming that he had failed to meet his expectations as a batter in the game’s longest format. However, Gill broke multiple records during the series, concluding with a stunning 754 runs in five Tests at an average of 75.40. He was named India’s Player of the Series after scoring the most runs in five Tests.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes Shubman, who is only 25 years old, would improve as he acquires experience. Shastri also projected that the right-handed batter would be a valuable asset to Indian cricket for many years.

“He’ll be around for a long, long time because we’ve seen what kind of series he’s had here. I think he’s only 25 years of age, and as you know, with this exposure, he’ll get even better,” Shastri said while speaking to Sky Sports.

Shastri opined that Gill has a regal touch about him and mentioned how easy he is to the eyes because of his fluency as a batter.

“He’s right up there, he will be up there. He’s composed, he’s very regal, he’s got that, you know, when you look at him, there’s something regal about him. The way he bats, he’s very easy on the eye, very fluent, and he has the ability to play the long innings,” said Shastri.
