Matthew Hayden, who used to play for Australia, criticised Team India after their forgettable first day of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval in London.
India got off to a good start after they won the toss and chose to bowl first. They quickly took three wickets. But Travis Head and Steve Smith put together a great combination of 251* runs off 370 balls, and Australia scored 327 runs on Day 1 to get back in the game.
When asked how Team India did on the first day, former Australian opener Hayden attacked Rohit and his teammates for not showing up on the first day of the big event. The 51-year-old said that beating your chest during the national anthem doesn’t do anything. He also said that India was tired because they chose to bowl first in the WTC final match.
“It doesn’t matter if you beat your chest during the national song or if Australians do the same. In the middle, you beat your chest out. India did not have enough power yesterday. “When Australia was in charge, they were the best, but if they don’t show up and hunt us as a pack, they’ll be in charge again,” Hayden told Star Sports.
Matthew Hayden went on to say that the best teams on Team India used to stick to a plan and hunt like a pack. He also said that India will lose in the first session if they don’t show up on the second day. He also said that, from Australia’s point of view, they will win this Test match easily.
“That’s what the great parts of India used to do. Keep to your plan and hunt as a group. From the point of view of Australia, a lot of the same. If India doesn’t show up today, keep bowling short and behind the line. If they keep getting cut and go over the third man, they’ll get owned in the first session. If they lose the first session, Australia will just win this Test match. So fast, it’s going to be gone. So it must be hard to get runs,” the former Australian cricket player said.
