Twitter Reactions: India's might surpasses struggling South Africa in the Chennai Test

In the one-off Test match in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, South Africa was no match for India. India dominated when they batted first, scoring 603/6d in the opening half. The opening combination of 292 runs between Smriti Mandhana (149) and Shafali Varma (205) seemed perfect as they set the tone. Mandhana scored 149 runs, and Varma achieved a double century.

Things were supposed to ease down once they left, but the side captained by Harmanpreet Kaur was not in a good mood. In addition to Jemimah Rodrigues’ 55 runs, Kaur and Richa Ghosh chipped in with 69 and 86 runs, respectively. After the first innings, India appeared to be the favourites to win the match, and South African bowlers were unable to comprehend and adjust to the new circumstances.

Sneh Rana had a tremendous performance in the second innings. The 30-year-old destroyed the opposition’s batting lineup by taking eight wickets during the innings. The visiting team was on the defensive since they appeared strong in spurts but fell short as a whole. As the game came to a close, wickets dropped like a house of cards as they were bundled for 266 runs and had to follow through.

In the third innings, Sune Luus and captain Laura Wolvaardt displayed remarkable fortitude to save South Africa from certain disaster. In the third innings, they looked terrific as they each scored a century. But once both cricketers were removed, the going got tough in the middle. Despite her best efforts, Nadine de Klerk was unable to get much support from the other player to complete the game on equal terms. With 373 runs scored, South Africa set a target of 37 runs, with the 24-year-old scoring 61 of those runs.

In the fourth innings, India found it far too simple. Shafali performed admirably as Shubha Satheesh’s opening partner. The first innings’ double century put an immediate end to it, as India triumphed by ten wickets. With that, India has now won three Test matches in as many months, against South Africa, Australia, and England.

X responded as follows to India’s victory over South Africa in the Chepauk Test:

INDIA WINS.

India defeats South Africa by 10 wickets in the only test. Extending their dominant streak against the Proteas in red ball cricket. A very competitive game, where Saffers fought back and took it to the last session.
