Varun Aaron, a former India fast bowler, chose Rashid Khan as the leading T20I captain in a ‘This or That’ challenge, dismissing other famous names such as Suryakumar Yadav and Aiden Markram.
Rashid recently led Afghanistan to the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE. However, the Blue Tigers were unable to proceed past the group round, losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Despite the disaster, Aaron favoured Rashid as his primary skipper in the game’s shortest format.
In a segment, Aaron chose Rashid from the start and stuck with him throughout the contest. Aside from Suryakumar and Markram, the former right-arm seamer overlooked Salman Ali Agha, Shai Hope, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Santner, Harry Brook, and Charith Asalanka. All of these players are presently leading their respective country in Twenty20 International cricket.
Suryakumar recently led the Men in Blue to the Asia Cup championship.
India stayed unbeaten throughout the eight-team event, winning seven consecutive matches to claim the coveted trophy for the eighth time. He has lost only four of his 29 T20Is as captain.
Meanwhile, Markram led South Africa to the final of the T20 World Cup last year. He became the first player to lead the Proteas to the final of a men’s T20 World Cup. However, his total captaincy record in T20Is is dismal, with only 14 victories out of 31 as a leader.
Rashid, on the other hand, has led the Afghan team in 38 Twenty20 Internationals. Afghanistan has 20 wins, for a win percentage of 52.63. Afghanistan advanced to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 before losing to South Africa.
After the dismal campaign in the Asia Cup, Afghanistan have suffered consecutive defeats against Bangladesh in Sharjah. The two teams will square off once again in the inconsequential third T20I on Sunday, October 5.
