India, South Africa, and the home team will compete in a Women’s ODI tri-series hosted by Sri Lanka Cricket from April 27 to May 11, 2025, the organisation just announced. The tri-series will be a crucial prelude to the Women’s ODI World Cup in India later this year. It was not initially part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP). Every game will take place in Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium during the day.
In the group stage, each side will play four games and face the other two teams twice. On May 11, the top two teams from the league phase will face off in the championship game. On April 27, the hosts, Sri Lanka, play India in the opening match of the series.
A number of South African and Indian players are participating in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) while Sri Lanka is presently on a white-ball tour of New Zealand. This tri-series is a useful supplement to South Africa’s preparations, given their previous international calendar featured the West Indies as their next opponent in June.
The top-ranked team entering will be India, who is presently rated third in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings.
Sri Lanka, the current Women’s Asia Cup champions, is placed seventh, with South Africa in close pursuit at number four. After defeating India in the league rounds, the South African team advanced to the quarterfinals of the most recent ODI World Cup in 2022.
