The first ODI between India Women and the West Indies was held at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. In every department, the Indian team outscored the visitors by 211 runs, recording their second-largest victory in the format.
The team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and batted first, amassing a substantial score in the first innings, with Smriti Mandhana once again emerging as the standout batsman with 91 off just 102 deliveries. Younger people Pratika Rawal (40 of 69) and Harleen Deol (44 of 50) made a few contributions in addition to hers. The Windies bowlers had a difficult time, and aside from Zaida James’ five-wicket haul, they had a huge goal of 315 to reach.
The tourists’ bat performance was poor, and they faced a catastrophic collapse. The West Indians were struggling because of the India bowlers.
The best bowler was Renuka Singh Thakur, who showed off her seam and swing bowling skills to take her first five-wicket haul in Women’s ODIs. India Women now lead the three-match ODI series as the West Indies were ultimately knocked out for 103.
Renuka made her debut genuinely unforgettable by winning Player of the Match for her incredible performance with the ball.
“The group inspires me. I became more confident as the wickets fell, and Harman (Kaur) asked if I wanted to bowl. Yesterday, we practiced spot bowling since it’s crucial for ODIs. I also talked to Jhulan Goswami, who assisted me in focussing on single-wicket balls. Bowlers find it challenging because the lines and lengths change from T20 cricket; for this reason, we practise. “We practise everything, and that’s what gets done,” the pacer stated.
