Indian Women’s poor over-rate in their opening match of the Women’s Tri-series versus Sri Lanka in Colombo has resulted in a five percent match fee penalties. After the match ended on Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) declared the sanction.
India was fined because, even after accounting for time allowances, they were still one goal shy of the goal. In order to avoid a formal hearing, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the sentence.
According to an ICC announcement, “players who fail to bowl within the allotted time are fined five percent of their match fee for each over in violation of Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.”
While third umpire Lyndon Hannibal and fourth umpire Dedunu de Silva supported the judgement, on-field umpires Anna Harris and Nimali Perera made the charge.
India performed admirably during the game. Having won the toss, they chose to field first. After hitting at regular intervals, the Indian bowlers dismissed Sri Lanka for a mere 147 runs in 38.1 overs. The bowling assault was led by Sneh Rana, who amassed 3/31 in eight overs at an economy rate of 3.9. Both Nallapureddy Charani and Deepti Sharma took two wickets apiece. Hasini Perera, the opener for Sri Lanka, scored the most runs (30).
