The latest development is that the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee will select the Indian squad for the next Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday, August 19. The teams are nearly finalised, but an official announcement will be made during a news conference hosted by head selector Ajit Agarkar and his committee, according to the most recent media reports.
According to sources, Test captain Shubman Gill will not make the final squad because the administration prefers to stay with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for the opening position, while Tilak Varma is ready to go at No. 3. Suryakumar Yadav, the expected captain, will bat at No. 4, leaving Gill with few opportunities in the T20I setup.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is slated to miss, or rather rest from, the competition due to workload management issues. In his absence, Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm speedster, is expected to head the pace battery. Another story stated Yuzvendra Chahal’s comeback, but only an official announcement can corroborate this.
Indian face Pakistan on September 14
The eight-team event will see India enter the tournament as the reigning champions, as they won the 2023 edition (played in 50-over format). They are placed in the Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, and will play once each against these sides in the group stage fixtures. If the Indians manage to finish in the top two of the points table at the end of group fixtures, they will advance to the Super Fours.
Their first game in the group stage schedule is against the UAE, whom they face on September 10. Their next game is going to be the most hyped and looked up to when they clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. The Indian team will end its group stage encounters with a match-up against Oman on September 19.
