Concerns have been raised about Dasun Shanaka batting performance ahead of the Asia Cup final versus India on September 17 in Colombo. The Sri Lankan captain has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities, but in five games, he has only scored 54 runs with the bat. Although there hasn’t been much of a need for him because other middle order hitters are currently hitting well, the cricketer must still get better to support his teammates.
The 32-year-old said he isn’t concentrating much on his hitting right now when asked about the situation. He noted that in order to make critical judgements as a captain, he must maintain his composure. He added clarification, stating it’s not that he doesn’t want to get better as a batter, but that he doesn’t give it much thought.
“When I step up to lead the squad, I don’t compare my batting. Making decisions is more crucial to me than playing middle-order batter. While I do not discount the importance of batting, I must put the bat aside and go on.
“Whenever a decision must be made, I must remain composed. Most of the time, I think of myself as someone who, while making poor judgements at the plate, nevertheless helps the team get through tough times. I have to appreciate the selectors for continuing to believe in me. Dasun Shanaka was reported by cricketmood as stating, “They and the coaching staff back me and give me confidence to be that leader and deliver the maximum out of me.
