The ongoing mega cricket carnival has seen a number of nail-biting contests in recent games, and yesterday’s game was no different. Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was fined on Wednesday, April 12 during their IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for failing to maintain the over-rate. But RR defeated the four-time champs by three runs in what ended up being a nail-biter. With six points after winning three of the four games, RR is currently in first place in the IPL 2023 points standings.
Sanju Samson received a 12 lakh rupee fine for maintaining a slow overrate throughout the game.
When a fielding side is unable to complete its 20 overs within the allotted time, it has a slow over rate. An IPL team is required to bowl 20 overs in 90 minutes, which includes an 85-minute playing period and a five-minute session for two 150-second strategic timeouts. For those who are unfamiliar, this time frame is divided into two 90-second halves.
IPL media advisory: “Captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs as it was the team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses.”
