When the IPL 2024 auction takes place in Dubai on December 19, a lot of well-known players will go under the hammer. Budgets for each team would now total Rs 100 crore, as opposed to Rs 95 crore in the previous season. Every player has a three-year contract, which ends this year. The next year, there will be a massive auction.
Eleven hundred sixty-six people have registered for the auction, which is the last mini-auction before the big one next year. Thirty of the 77 spots are designated for players from outside the country. The ten teams can spend a total of Rs 262.95 crore.
Many seasoned international cricket players have added their names to the auction list. However, with only 77 spots available, it is still unclear which player will be chosen. In light of this, let’s take a look at five capped players who might not find a home in the IPL 2024 bid.
The following list of the Top 5 capped players could not be sold at the IPL
2024 auction:

1. David Willey
Following the ICC World Cup 2023, David Willey announced his retirement from international cricket. The 33-year-old recognized that he now has less time to look into other options and earn some money because the ECB removed him from the list of core contracts. Willey has participated in the Indian Premier League on multiple occasions; he most recently played for the RCB in Indian Premier League 2023. But during the course of three IPL seasons, he has only played 11 games and claimed six wickets.
Willey was not chosen in past auctions because of his England commitments. The England pacer, though, may find himself unsold this time around as well because of his poor form and lack of output. Even though David Willey finished the 2017 ICC World Cup with 11 wickets at an economy of 5.07, IPL clubs do not have much faith in his talents.

2. Siddharth Kaul
Siddharth Kaul is an Indian Premier League participant who has played domestic cricket in India since 2013. In just two IPL seasons, 2017 and 2018, he took 37 of his 58 wickets in 55 matches. Kaul is a generous player, but in recent years, his speed has significantly decreased.
As a result, he is now selected by teams as a backup rather than their first choice. With so many younger, faster bowlers available, the teams may decide to forgo the Punjab pacer in the IPL 2024.

3. Dawid Malan
Dawid Malan has maintained his position as the Indian Premier League 2024 top-tier base price. Malan’s impact in the format has somewhat diminished since he was recognized as the top T20I batter. In 316 T20s, he has amassed 8667 runs with five hundreds and a strike percentage of 129.74. On the other hand, the England opener hasn’t really played in the IPL yet. He has only participated in a single Punjab Kings IPL 2021 match.
Malan, 36, might not be selected in the Indian Premier League 2024 auction, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his future with the England team following the ODI World Cup 2023. This is because he has never played in India, he has trouble with good spin, and he is older than 36. Malan might not be able to outbid them at the auction because there are a lot of younger, skilled openers contending for a spot in teams.

4. Harshal Patel
One of the IPL teams’ former favorites, Harshal Patel, cost RCB around INR 10 crores to acquire at auction before being retained. His finest performance came in IPL 2021, when he claimed 32 wickets, matching the record for most wickets in a single IPL edition. After that, Harshal was only able to take 34 more wickets in the following two seasons, although both times he had an economy of nearly nine or higher.
Opposing teams were able to manipulate Harshal Patel’s death-over bowling, and he was therefore deemed untrustworthy in that capacity. Although there’s a potential they’ll buy him back at a lower price, RCB chose to release him in order to increase their purse in the auction. Considering that Harshal Patel is no longer on the Indian team, there’s also a potential that he won’t find a buyer at all.

5. Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey was once the newest sensation in Indian cricket, becoming the first batter to achieve a century in the IPL. His successes in domestic cricket and the first few IPL seasons also secured his debut in India. However, it turned out that steadiness was his downfall. Though Pandey has only played 68 matches for India, he has amassed over 1270 runs, one ODI century, and five total fifties. He is a flamboyant batsman and an outstanding fielder.
Having amassed 3808 runs in 170 matches in one hundred and twenty-two fifties, he has been a major attraction in the IPL. The striking aspect of his record, however, is his strike rate of 120.97. Recent IPL seasons have seen Pandey’s strike rate become problematic. In 10 matches, he averaged 17.78 for DC in the 2023 IPL, with a pitiful strike rate of 109.59. Since his recent domestic performances have also been poor, there’s a good probability that Manish Pandey, who formerly dominated the IPL batting statistics, won’t find a buyer in the IPL 2024 auction.
